Field Maneuvers: Rules of Engagement

Loose Lips Sink Ships has an optional game component wherein players can earn points, and points can be used to gain rank, bragging rights, and graphics.

How it Works:

To earn one point: Fill any prompt by creating a qualifying work and posting it to the masterlist.

To earn two points: Fill one of Colonel Kink's Memorial Prompts with a qualifying work, or fill a prompt fitting Colonel Kink's Theme of the Fortnight with a qualifying work. They must be filled before the next newsletter is released.

A Qualifying Work is a complete fic in English of at least 1000 words (chapters or parts of a story do not qualify), or a polished piece of art not drawn on lined paper, or a vid that is at least 30-seconds in length. It must be a new work, not a repost.

Colonel Kink's Memorial Prompts will be selected at random from older, unfilled prompts, and posted in the Mail Call newsletter on Dreamwidth and Tumblr every 14 days.

Every fifth Mail Call, memorial prompts are replaced by Colonel Kink's Theme of the Fortnight. Any fill posted that complies with the theme of the fortnight will be worth two points, no matter what prompt it's created for.

To indicate that your work is intended to fill the memorial prompt or theme of the fortnight, submit to the masterpost from the prompts page as normal, but make sure to check the box on the submissions page reading: "This fill counts for Field Maneuvers' Memorial Prompt/Theme of the Fortnight."

Scoring

3 Points: Second Lieutenant
9 Points: First Lieutenant
18 Points: Captain
30 Points: Major
45 Points: Lieutenant Colonel
69 Points: Colonel
85 Points: You get one free trip home, or to the Korean Peninsula*

With each rank increment, participants will receive a 100x100 icon with the appropriate rank flash and their username. Scores will be announced every fourteen days in Mail Call.

How to Sign Up

To opt into the game, please comment in reply to this post. You must include the username you plan to post fills under. If you have posted fills to this meme prior to signing up, you may retroactively claim them for a value of one point per fill. Please mention what fills you'd like to claim.

If you don't want to play any more, please comment with "I hereby resign my command, effective today. Signed, [username used to submit fills]," or private message this DW account.

I would love to get in on this but I have a dumb question first - sorry if this has been clearly outlined somewhere and I'm just missing it (I'm a teacher and it drives me nuts when students ask for instructions I've already given a million times and are clearly described in multiple places... anyway, sorry if I'm doing that). Here it is - if I see a prompt I'm interested in responding to, do I need to claim it or sign up for it? Or do I just complete the 'fill' form on the website once it's finished? I would use the username churchkey. Thank you in advance!

If you want to play the points game, sign up here, and then proceed as below, and we'll count your fills for points automatically.

If you want to fill prompts (be left out of the points silliness, or not, as you like), you can simply press the +fill button on the website and fill out the form. Your fic will then go in the round up posts, and be listed on the site masterlist.

There's no advance claiming, and you can fill prompts other people have already filled, or you yourself have already filled.
